Show Notes

Oscar Carmona started in January as the Director of Raleigh's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department after a long career working in parks in Texas. He has a passion not only for parks, but for local governments that have the flexibility and budgets to do big things with their park systems. We talked to him about learning his way around the Raleigh Parks system, how the city's parks are adjusting to the pandemic and how bird watching drew him to parks at a young age.

Before the interview, we talk some more closings and cancellations, ponder what increased outdoor dining might look like for Raleigh's restaurants, and wonder if the sunflowers might show up somewhere besides Dix Park this summer.

Special thanks to Papa Murphy's Take N Bake Pizza of Raleigh--who are still open and serving safe, delicious dinners--and Steele Residential, who has graciously donated their ad time during the pandemic to local non-profits, this episode they're supporting The Green Chair Project
